The Burger Basics

There’s nothing more American than the hamburger. Hot, juicy ground beef, hearty buns, and a selection of cheese, veggies, and condiments make this meal a no-brainer for any foodservice menu. In order of popularity, burgers are right up there with pizza at concession stands, restaurants, and sports bars. They pair perfectly with fries or onion rings, beer or soda, indulgent eating or healthy living. And every May they get the recognition they deserve during National Burger Month.

The Classic Burger

hamburger and fries There’s nothing boring about the basic burger. Food trucks, restaurants, and family entertainment venues have been collecting revenue on this American classic since the late 1900’s. Every customer has an opinion on what makes the perfect burger: American cheese or dairy-free, ketchup and mayo or plain with mustard, pickles and onions or lettuce and tomatoes. Quik n’ Crispy has figured out the secret: hot, juicy ground beef with 20%-40% less fat than traditionally prepared fried foods. Any way you slice it, it’s hard to go wrong with adding a healthy burger to your menu.

Spicing Up the Basic Burger

Americans like to push boundaries, so it’s no surprise that you can find some outrageous hamburgers in this country. They may not be as healthy as a greaseless fried hamburger, and it takes a certain kind of bravery to ingest some of these meals, but here’s a selection of the 5 craziest hamburgers in America:

  1. The Donut Burger. Talk about a heart attack on a bun. These calorie-rich treats replace hamburger buns with fried donuts, taking the classic hamburger from roughly 350 calories to nearly 1,500.
  2. Fried Egg Burger. Topped with a fried egg and anything from bacon to avocado, this burger isn’t as new as it sounds. In fact, it was invented only a few years after the original hamburger.
  3. The Ice Cream Burger. A favorite for state fair food carts, this unhealthy burger features succulent beef, thick buns, and a giant scoop of fried ice cream.
  4. The Chili Burger. Americans love throwing chili on things almost as much as we love burgers. Serve the chili burger with a side of chili cheese fries.
  5. The Contest Burger. These giant burgers range anywhere from 1lb to 185. Restaurants usually sell contest burgers with the promise that anyone who finishes it gets the meal for free.
