Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

September has a lot going for it. It ushers autumn (and pumpkin spice lattes) back into our lives. It’s National Potato, Chicken, and Breakfast month. This Saturday is National Bacon Day, while September 5th is National Cheese Pizza Day. But the most important thing about September is that it’s National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

Childhood Obesity in America

One of every three kids in America is obese or overweight. This puts them at risk for adult health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Schools, businesses, and homes across the country are getting involved to promote children’s health. Here’s how you can make a difference.

School Cafeterias

Offer fruits and vegetables, balanced meals, and healthier variations of kids’ favorite foods. Educate kids about the importance of healthy eating and exercise. This may mean educating the kitchen staff about healthy meal choices, hanging up posters showing healthier food items, or educating kids about health in the classroom.

Family Entertainment Centers

If a kid visits a family entertainment center, their parents have already won half the health battle. Keeping kids active and having fun is what skating rinks, bowling alleys, and laser tag arenas are all about. Prevent childhood obesity by providing healthy concessions to help kids reenergize and keep playing. A Quik n’ Crispy greaseless fryer prepares popular menu items like pizza and burgers with 20% to 40% fat and calories. That’s something kids and their parents will love!
